Pioneer of Endourology in Afghanistan
Dr. Zamari Noori is a distinguished Afghan urologist and one of the leading pioneers in the development of modern endourology and minimally invasive urological surgery in Afghanistan. He has played a major role in establishing advanced urological services, particularly in Western Afghanistan, and has contributed significantly to the growth of urological surgery through clinical practice, training, and academic leadership.
Dr. Noori is a certified specialist in Urological Surgery, having completed his postgraduate specialty training at Jamhuriat Hospital, Kabul, Afghanistan, one of the country’s major referral and academic surgical centers.
He further advanced his expertise through multiple international fellowship programs. He completed a Fellowship in Endourology at Global University, India, followed by a Fellowship in Uro-Laparoscopy at Pamukkale University, Denizli, Turkey. In addition, he completed a specialized fellowship in Urolithiasis (Stone Disease) at the Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University, China, strengthening his clinical and academic focus on advanced stone management and minimally invasive urological surgery.
Dr. Noori currently holds several key leadership positions in Afghanistan’s surgical and urological community. He serves as the Chairman of the Herat Urology Association, the Chairman of the Urology Association of Herat Province, and the Acting President of the Afghan Surgeons Society (Union of Surgeons of Afghanistan). In addition, he is the Chief of Surgery Department at Aria Apollo Hospital Complex in Herat City, where he plays a central role in clinical management, surgical planning, and training activities.
Throughout his professional career, Dr. Noori has actively promoted modern urological standards and the implementation of contemporary endourological techniques in Afghanistan.
He is widely regarded as one of the earliest Afghan urologists to introduce and routinely perform advanced endourological procedures, including TURP (Transurethral Resection of the Prostate), URS (Ureteroscopy), PCNL (Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy), cystolitholapaxy, and other minimally invasive interventions for urinary stone disease and benign prostatic obstruction.
With a remarkable surgical experience, Dr. Noori has successfully performed more than 10,000 endourological procedures, making him one of the most experienced endourologists in Afghanistan. His contributions have been instrumental in improving patient outcomes, reducing the need for open stone surgery, and modernizing urological practice in the region.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Noori has been deeply involved in professional development and scientific collaboration. He is a member of several international urological organizations, including the European Association of Urology (EAU), the American Urological Association (AUA), the International Association of Urology (IAU), the Central Asian Urology Association (CACU), and SAARC.
Dr. Zamari Noori is also recognized for his dedication to training younger surgeons and strengthening academic urology in Afghanistan. His long-term vision focuses on the advancement of minimally invasive surgery, endourological education, and the establishment of structured national urology programs that meet international standards.
